The eight sub-projects of the research group hail from eight different disciplines. They deal with constitutive and explanatory narratives in religious-mythological, theological, political, scientific and literary texts as well as in visual media.
The narrative pattern of aetiology, familiar from classical antiquity, will be theoretically expanded and tested as a model for relating past and present across a wide range of contexts: from Antiquity through the Middle Ages to early attempts at a scientific study of myth, to the beginning of a natural science of man and his evolution, to political and apocalyptic narratives of the 20th and 21st centuries.
